I have owned and loved five MB prior to the CLA.

My 1st Benz was a 1965 4-door Sedan. A hand-me-down from my dad. I have owned 4 or 5 more prior to the 2017 CLA. I purchased the CLA with less than 500 miles on it and it had NOT been titled. I kept the car 6 months. I had it back to the dealership/shop 5 times in 6 MONTHS. The problems ranged from serious to stupid. I disliked the economy setting on the car. I disliked the level of engine noise and the size of the gas tank. I disliked having to waste an entire day to take it into the shop to have something as simple as a taillight replacement. And yes, I tried to have it done locally, but there were no directions, no indicators on the lights and even my local auto parts store wouldn't touch it. And on it goes. I traded the car for a C Class with almost 30,000 miles on it compared to 7,000 on my CLA. I took a huge hit on the money too. But I was never so glad to get rid of the CLA and drive away in my C Class. I will ALWAYS LOVE Mercedes. I will NEVER ENDORSE OR RECOMMEND THE CLA.

Either love it or hate it.

I may be the exception as I really like it in spite of things I don’t like. It’s not all that comfortable. It’s not that quiet. It’s not all that exciting in the acceleration department. It doesn’t have much leg room and the back seat is for toddlers only. But with the AMG package it looks great. It’s very agile and very dependable. It has above average gas mileage and the ergonomics are well above average. It is fun to drive but long trips can play havoc on the back and butt. It’s very easy to drive and doesn’t feel like a bargain Benz.

Highly Dangerous

The central problem with this CLA250 from 2014 is its stalling problem. After about 35,000 miles, it appears the crank angle sensor goes bad, and the car stumbles along until it stalls. Sometimes it does not restart. I was on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in July of 2020 when my CLA250 stalled in the left lane of the highway. I contacted police, and as a cruiser was approaching, a man in a white van rammed into my car destroying it. I could have died although not from the impact of the van. The CLA250 was very sturdy. Only the trunk was punched in totaling the car. I read how Mercedes Benz responded to other peoples' narratives about their cars stalling, and the response was disrespectful. The company accused the owners of stalling their cars, and NHTSA never stepped in to check out the CLA250. Stay away from this car as it may fail on its owner placing its owner into great danger. I envy my father's 190E from 1992 that never, ever stalls. They don't don't make them like they used to. Be warned.
