What can I do if my pre-qualification has expired?

Your Capital One pre-qualification offer expires 30 days after your pre-qualification request is received. You may use your offer on, but not after, the expiration date. All other financing offers are subject to the terms of the offering party. If your offer expires before you are ready to purchase a vehicle, you may re-submit your information to check your eligibility for a new offer. Upon resubmission, it is possible that the decision status or terms of the offer could change.

What should I do if I think someone else submitted a request for pre-qualification in my name and without my permission?

If you did not submit this request for a pre-qualification on Auto Navigator and believe that someone else may have improperly used your identity to do so, please call us at 1.800.689.1789. Identity theft is a serious national problem. If you believe you have been the victim of identity theft, we recommend visiting the Federal Trade Commission's website on identity theft for more information.

What do I do if I need to provide additional documents or information for my pre-qualification request?

If your request for pre-qualification requires additional documentation or information, these requirements will be shown on your pre-qualification offer, along with instructions for how to provide them to the participating lender either online or at the dealership.

What should I do if Capital One asked me to provide proof of residence?

You have the option of using our Auto Navigator online tool to securely upload your documents, or you may fax them to Capital One at 1.800.390.5145 prior to visiting the dealer. What is needed?Many documents may satisfy proof of residence. See some examples below. A copy of a utility bill in your name dated within the last 60 days is needed to verify the address you submitted. Alternatively, you can submit a current lease agreement, dated within one year and signed by both you and the landlord. The lease cannot be a month-to-month agreement. You can also submit a mortgage statement, no older than 60 days. Other acceptable documents include, but are not limited to, bank statements, insurance billing statements, a Capital One Auto Finance pre-approval letter, and pay stubs. These options must all verify your listed address and be dated within the last 60 days. Residences of a Tribal Reservation can submit a signed and dated letter, no older than 60 days, from the Tribal Government describing the residence location. Why is it needed? In processing your request for an offer of pre-qualification we discovered the address on your form does not match the address listed in one or more of the credit reports that we used. In order to verify that the address on your form is your correct and current address, we are requiring that you provide proof of your residence. If you submitted a request to check your pre-qualification offer eligibility for auto financing with Capital One® and this is simply a case of your address being incorrect on your credit report, you may want to inform the three major credit reporting agencies: Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion.

What is needed?Many documents may satisfy proof of income. Some examples are below. W-2 Employees with Computer-Generated Pay Stubs: provide a copy of your most recent computer-generated pay stub which must include year-to-date earnings and taxes withheld, containing no alterations. The pay stub must be issued within 45 days of the date you submit it to us. A 90-day history is required to include overtime, commission, and bonuses. From January through April 15th (during the year you are applying), a W-2 or year-end pay stub from the prior year (in addition to the most recent pay stub) is necessary to include income other than base salary. W-2 Employees with Handwritten Pay Stubs: If you receive non-computer-generated pay stubs, you must submit a letter from your employer that is signed and dated on company letterhead. The letter must state your name, date of hire, base income, year-to-date income, pay frequency, taxes withheld, and verifiable contact information of the employer. In addition, we must receive either (a) copies of your three most recent complete bank statements reflecting consistent, consecutive deposit sources and amounts, or (b) copies of your three most recent, concurrent, cashed, handwritten paychecks. The most recent deposit or check must have been issued within 45 days of the date you submit it to us. Self-Employed and 1099 Employees: You must provide copies of your three most recent personal bank statements reflecting consistent and consecutive deposits that indicate the payment source and amounts. A verifiable Human Resources phone number must be provided by 1099 Employees. Please note: in order for 1099 income to be considered, "self-employed" you must have selected "Self-Employed" as the "employment status" when submitting your information. Rental income is considered Self-Employed income. New W-2 Employment Income: If you have not received your first pay stub, you must submit a letter of employment or offer-letter signed and dated on company letterhead. The letter must state your name, date of hire, base pay, and verifiable contact information of the employer. You must have already started your new job. a pay stub from a previous employer will not be accepted. Second Job: Income from a second job will be considered if you have been employed at the secondary job for a minimum of six months. Temporary Workers: If you are an employee of temporary staffing agencies, you must be on a full-time assignment and provide a copy of your most recent pay stub showing a minimum of 90 consecutive days of income and taxes withheld. a pay stub from a previous employer will not be accepted. Military Income: In order for military income to be accepted you must submit a copy of the most recent Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) showing year-to-date income. A 90-day history is required to include income beyond base pay, Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH), and Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS). From January through April 15th, a W-2 or yearend LES from the prior year (in addition to the most recent LES) is necessary to include additional income. Personal Income: You must be currently and actively employed. You must be a W-2 employee with a minimum of two years with your seasonal employer. You must provide your previous two years' W-2's, and your most recent pay stub. The pay stub must be computer-generated, include year-to-date earnings and taxes withheld, contain no alterations, and must have been issued within 45 days of the date you submit it to us. Child Support / Alimony / Foster Care: Only the pages of the court order that contain your name, amount to be paid, judge's signature and date are required. In order for child support/ alimony to be accepted, you must submit a copy of the signed and dated court order, which clearly states the dollar amount to be paid. In addition, you must provide either the three most recent child support/alimony pay stubs, or three most recent months' bank statements showing the deposits. Social Security Benefit / Permanent Disability / Pension: In order for social security benefits, permanent disability, or pension income to be accepted, you must submit either (1) a copy of your dated benefit letter (no older than one year from the submitted date) with your name or social security number, the date, benefit amount, and the name of the administration office paying the benefit, or (2) a transaction summary listing the current or previous month's Direct Express Transaction Summary from the US Treasury Department, or (3) a copy of Social Security check dated within 45 days showing the month the benefit is being paid, or (4) your most recent bank statement that shows the direct deposit(s) indicating source and amount. If you receive social security income or other benefit compensation on behalf of another person, you must submit a benefit letter with the same criteria showing the amount is payable to you on behalf of that person. Worker’s Compensation: In order for Worker’s Compensation to be accepted you must submit a copy of your dated benefit letter (no older than one year from the submitted date) with your name or social security number, benefit amount, and the name of the company or administration paying the benefit. IRA / 401K / Retirement: In order for IRA, 401K, or other retirement income to be accepted you must submit either (1) your previous year's tax form 1099-R, (2) a copy of a dated benefit letter (no older than one year from the date you submit it to us) with your name or social security number, benefit amount, and the name of the company or administration paying the benefit, or (3) a bank statement, no older than 45 days, showing the direct deposit(s) indicating the payment source and amount; or (4) a United States Treasury Check for Veteran Affairs and Military Retirement, no older than 45 days from the day you submit it to us. Office of Family Assistance (OFA): In order for OFA income to be accepted, you must submit your most recent award or benefit letter stating the status of the award and the amount received. You must also provide either: (1) your most recent monthly statement from the income source (such as courts or government agency); (2) most recent personal bank statement or online account showing the deposit; (3) cancelled checks (front and back) from the past month; (4) your benefit letter, no older than 1 year, listing your name, social security number, and benefit amount. What is Capital One's relationship with the other lenders on Auto Navigator?

Auto Navigator wants to give you the best experience possible. In order to do that, we’ve built relationships with other lenders to bring you more financing options to purchase many of the vehicles displayed on Auto Navigator. Capital One has no interest in, ownership of, or control of participating lender(s) displayed through Auto Navigator. Pre-qualified financing terms offered by a participating lender are solely determined and provided by that participating lender. Capital One may receive a fee from participating lenders if you finance with the participating lender.

If I have multiple pre-qualifications, how can I proceed with the one I want?

Call 1.800.689.1789 to advise which application you would like to proceed with and withdraw the other application(s).

I'm pre-qualified with multiple participating lenders. Why do I only see pre-qualified terms for one of the participating lenders for each vehicle?

For each vehicle, Auto Navigator will show you pre-qualified terms from only one participating lender with which you are pre-qualified. Pre-qualified terms displayed for a given vehicle are determined by both (1) which participating lender(s) you are pre-qualified with and (2) whether or not the participating lender is the dealership's preferred participating lender. Contact the dealership for more information about your potential financing options.

How can I find a specific car or dealer that I'm looking for on Auto Navigator?

You can find available vehicles by clicking here, where you can filter your options. Participating dealers' inventories are regularly updated on Auto Navigator. However, if you want to purchase a specific vehicle from a participating dealer and cannot find that vehicle on Auto Navigator, you may still use your pre-qualification at that dealer and/or contact the dealer to discuss that specific vehicle.

How do I know that the dealer I choose will have the car I'm interested in?

Selecting a vehicle on Auto Navigator does not guarantee that the dealer still has the vehicle available for sale. If you would like to check the availability of the exact vehicle in which you are interested, we suggest that you call the dealer ahead of your visit.

What are the eligible vehicles that I can finance?

To finance with Capital One, make sure the vehicle is:Sold by one of our participating dealersA new or used car, truck, minivan, or SUV for personal useA model year within the last 10 years and has fewer than 120,000 miles In some instances, an older model year or vehicle with fewer than 150,000 miles may be eligible. To complete a purchase, do I need to apply at the dealer? If so, what are the impacts?

Yes. When you visit a participating dealer, you will be required to complete a credit application, which may result in one or more hard inquiries posted to your consumer credit report. You will also sign a retail installment contract, which discloses your purchase and financing terms. Visit our Auto Learning Center for more information about hard inquiries and their impact.

What optional products could the dealer offer me?

When you fill out the credit application at the dealer to use your Auto Navigator pre-qualification offer, you may be interested in (or the dealer may offer you) optional products like extended warranties, service contracts and Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP) coverage. These products are not offered by or through Capital One or participating lenders. You should evaluate the products independently to determine whether they make sense for you. 5. How do I connect my prequalification to my account?

Once your Online ID is created, we’ll give you the option to search for your pre-qualification and connect it to your account. If your pre-qualification has expired, you’ll need to pre-qualify again.

6. How do I use my Auto Navigator pre-qualification offer?

Your pre-qualification offer comes into play after you choose which vehicle you want at the dealership. You will be asked to complete a credit application for the selected vehicle. This allows the dealer to find financing for you and can help locate your Auto Navigator pre-qualification offer. Knowing your terms in advance allows you to take control of your financing decision. If the dealer offers you financing from another lender, you can compare the terms with those in your Auto Navigator pre-qualification.

To complete your vehicle purchase using your offer, you will sign a retail installment contract with the dealer as the original creditor. The retail installment contract will include your purchase and financing terms and will be assigned by the dealer to the lender you've chosen.
