Car Overview
Nissan Leaf
General Motors gets plenty of credit for its groundbreaking EV1 electric car, but Nissan popularized the concept with the original Leaf. When it first went on sale for the 2011 model year, it offered less than 75 miles of driving range on a charge, but the latest Leafs can travel more than 225 miles before you need to recharge the battery. The Nissan Leaf is competitively priced, too. It seats five people, has a large trunk, and earns decent crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). So if you want to go electric on a budget, the Leaf is worth a look.
