After leaving the United States market in 1983, Fiat returned in 2011 with the 2012 Fiat 500, which exhibited a strong likeness to the classic and beloved original. The Fiat 500 is a city-friendly, four-passenger car with compact proportions and efficient drivetrains. Over the years, in addition to the standard two-door hardtop model, there was a soft-top 500c convertible, a track-tuned 500 Abarth, and a battery-electric 500e. An automatic transmission option arrived in 2015. In 2019, Fiat said it would discontinue the 500 and 500e. However, the automaker in 2022 announced that the 500e would make a comeback as part of the brand’s electrification strategy. The next-generation 500e will arrive in early 2024.
