The BMW XM is a performance-oriented midsize five-passenger SUV. It was developed entirely by BMW and is only the second vehicle in the automaker's history to enjoy that distinction. The first was the BMW M1. A plug-in-hybrid electric vehicle, the XM offers electric-only driving for shorter trips and a traditional internal-combustion engine for longer drives. When the XM went on sale in 2023, it had a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 and its combined output measured 644-horsepower with 590 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive was standard. The BMW XM is larger than the electric BMW iX. It has a longer wheelbase and is longer than a BMW X5 but is just as wide. The automaker builds the XM in its SUV factory in South Carolina.
