Beautiful car, when it’s not in the repair shop
Thursday, September 29, 2022
I was warned. I read the reviews and thought some of the quality issues that Range Rover is famous for were being overblown. Just in case, I bought the extended warranty. Instead, I wish I’d (a) bought a different car or (b) leased it for 2 years because I would gladly turn this car back to JLR and say, “it’s your problem now”. Is it a beautiful vehicle? Yes, it turns heads everywhere it goes. Does it feel like a very nice luxury car that is fun to drive? Sure does. However, in 18 months of ownership, I’ve already had 4 major issues with the car. This is stark contrast to my old BMX X5, which was 9 years old and never had a single issue. Also, the screens on the Range Rover has so many software bugs that it’s a wonder if there is any QA team at all. This is a closed software system (they own the hardware) so it is shameful for the Range Rover engineering team to have continual issues of screens failing, getting “stuck”, turning black in the middle of driving, losing Apple Play connectivity in the middle of driving, etc. I’ve had cheap Hyundai rental cars that are more solidly engineered than this.
