Assistance Is More Than Towing and Jump-Starts
State Farm roadside assistance is designed to remedy the most common problems motorists encounter, on daily commutes or road trips. It provides towing in the event of a breakdown, tire changes to help with flats or other damage to rubber and rims, jump-starts, delivery of fuel or oil should the tank run dry or the engine spring a leak, and locksmith service for locked-out drivers.
Roadside assistance also covers one hour of on-scene repair work by a mechanic or a technician. It's intended for minor problems that can be fixed on the spot.
There are limitations to these services. While the delivery of fuel, oil, and tires is covered, the customer is responsible for the cost of those items. Locksmith services are limited to one hour of service before the customer becomes responsible for the specialist's time. And towing is limited to a certain distance, which can vary depending on where you live.
State Farm Roadside Assistance Costs
State Farm Roadside Assistance is available only to those who hold an insurance policy with the company. The cost of the service varies and is bundled with the fees for services provided by State Farm. That means policyholders need to call for a quote if they want to add Coverage H to their existing protections. Insurance marketplace Smart Financial estimates the cost of State Farm roadside coverage at between $8 and $24 per year.
If you're a State Farm car insurance customer but lack roadside assistance as part of your current coverage, you might save money on towing and tire changes. State Farm notes that it negotiates lower rates with local service providers, which means policyholders can access the company's assistance network and pay reduced rates.
