The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 could be called two sides of the same coin. This pair of light-duty full-size pickups share a platform but offer different styling, along with unique trim levels that outline their distinct personalities. Both are strong options in one of the most competitive segments of the industry and both benefit from a mild redesign for the 2022 model year.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs. GMC Sierra 1500: Price
In bare-bones rear-wheel drive WT guise, the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is priced at around $33,000, and comes with a 310-hp turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine. Four-wheel drive starts at around $38,000. At the other end of the vast spectrum of options, engine choices, and trim levels, the new off-road-oriented ZR2 can be had for just under $67,000 with the 420-hp 6.2-liter V8. While that's a discount over the similar Sierra AT4X, the GMC version includes much of the Chevy's optional packages as standard equipment.
Sharing powertrains with the Chevy, the base GMC Sierra 1500 Pro trim is more expensive than the Silverado. But the premium doesn't add any meaningful content to the equation. The extra equipment arrives like an avalanche with the Denali trim, inflating its starting price to more than $65,000. The Ultimate trim comes to more than $80,000.

While both the Silverado 1500 and the Sierra 1500 present task-focused, value-oriented options in their respective lower trims — and share an almost identical set of features at the mid-level — it's the high-end trucks that help separate the mechanical twins.
In particular, the GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate trim provides a level of luxury not duplicated by the Chevrolet Silverado High Country, with an interior finish that is a cut above its sibling, plus standard Super Cruise hands-free-driving technology and an optional CarbonPro cargo box that is scratch-, dent-, and corrosion-resistant. With its front and rear locking differentials and Multimatic DSSV dampers, the new flagship Silverado ZR2 offers off-road capabilities that are similar to the Sierra AT4X, but at a lower price with fewer standard features.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs. GMC Sierra 1500: Towing and Hauling
These half-ton versions of the Sierra and Silverado feature a towing capacity that starts at 9,000 pounds and climbs to 13,200 pounds or 13,300 pounds respectively (a 4,000-pound gain over outgoing models) when you opt for the turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine with rear-wheel drive. The maximum payload for both the GM trucks tops out at around 2,200 pounds.
