The Ford Bronco Sport arrives in four easy-to-digest trims, each offering all-wheel drive. The base model starts at about $30,000, which encompasses the $1,1500 delivery and destination fee. The Big Bend model has some adventure-worthy additions — such as a tougher cargo mat and easier-to-clean cloth seats — and costs $32,000. The $36,000 Outer Banks model gets some interior and exterior refinements, while the fully loaded Badlands model costs around $38,000 and includes a more powerful engine.

Jeep

Jeep dropped the Cherokee’s cheapest trim and least powerful engine for 2022, pushing the entry price up to align closely with the most expensive Bronco Sport. For $37,000, you can choose either the all-wheel-drive Cherokee X or the feature-heavy, front-wheel-drive Latitude Lux trim. All-wheel drive is available on this trim for $1,500, and buyers can also switch from the standard 271-hp V6 to a more efficient 270-hp turbocharged inline-four for $695. The off-road-ready Cherokee Trailhawk costs $39,000, and the top Limited model starts at $41,000.

With the standard 181-hp three-cylinder engine, the Bronco Sport will return 26 mpg. Top-trim Badlands models use a bigger, 250-hp four-cylinder engine that returns 23 mpg.

With the more expensive inline-four, the front-wheel-drive Jeep Cherokee Latitude Lux trim returns 26 mpg, while all-wheel drive drops that to 24 mpg. The V6 engine knocks fuel economy to 22 mpg with all-wheel drive, while the Trailhawk version sees 21 mpg.

With standard all-wheel drive, the Bronco Sport is ready for off-roading and has plenty of features. The standard Ford Co-Pilot360 system includes automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is also available, adding adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and sign recognition. The dash sports an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, in addition to optional onboard navigation. Big Bend and higher trim levels feature automatic climate control, with Outer Banks and Badlands offering two zones of air conditioning. Leather-trimmed, heated front seats are standard on Outer Banks models, and you can get a heated steering wheel in that trim as well. The Badlands model with the more powerful engine includes an advanced all-wheel-drive system and off-road-oriented suspension.

Jeep

Jeep offers two Cherokee trims geared toward off-road exploration. The new-for-2022 Cherokee X features a one-inch suspension lift and all-terrain tires. The Trailhawk adds a two-speed transfer case, a locking rear axle, skid plates, crawl control, and prominent tow hooks to earn Jeep’s respected off-road-ready Trail Rated designation. All Cherokees come with a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, a heated front steering wheel, and remote start along with standard blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assistance. The Latitude Lux gets leather-trimmed seats, push-button ignition, and a power liftgate. Limited models arrive with adaptive cruise control and a massive panoramic sunroof. All models have an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
