Shoppers in need of a subcompact crossover will find they have choices at the Chevy dealership. While the Chevrolet Trax and Trailblazer have similar price tags and are similar sizes, only one of these models feels competitive and value-packed when it comes to features and fuel efficiency.

Chevrolet Trailblazer vs Chevrolet Trax: Price

The Trax is the most affordable crossover Chevy offers at $22,595 for a front-wheel-drive LS model. The LT trim bumps that price up to $24,395 and adds LED headlights, roof rails, cruise control, and more. Those in need of all-wheel drive will be pleased to hear that it's just $620 on either trim of the Trax.

The entry-level Trailblazer LS FWD costs $22,995, which is just $400 more than the Trax. Customers can configure the Trailblazer with either a 137- or 155-hp three-cylinder engine and front- or all-wheel drive. Chevy offers a rugged Activ trim for $27,020, while the all-wheel-drive, top-trim RS model costs $28,520. The automaker offers several optional packages available on the Trailblazer, even on the most expensive model, ranging from $345 for the Driver Confidence Package to $1,770 for the Sun and Liftgate Package.

The Trailblazer is available with many more features and options than the Trax. For example, the Trax doesn’t come with standard cruise control, and it isn't available with adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, or lane-keeping assistance, which are all offered on the Trailblazer. The Trax also doesn’t offer heated seats, a heated steering wheel, or a wireless phone charger—features that are all offered on the Trailblazer. The Trailblazer is also available with full LED headlights, a sunroof, and a hands-free power liftgate.

Both models come standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Activ and RS Trailblazers can be upgraded to an 8.0-inch screen with the $1,620 Technology package that also includes a seven-speaker Bose sound system, HD and satellite radio, wireless device charging, adaptive cruise control, an improved rear view camera, and LED headlamps.

The Trailblazer also offers the larger cargo hold, with 25 cubic feet of storage space behind the second row compared to the Trax’s 19 cubic feet.

The Chevy Trailblazer is also significantly more fuel-efficient than the Trax. Front-wheel-drive models equipped with the 137-hp 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine are estimated to return 29 mpg city and 31 mpg highway, while the 155-hp 1.3-liter front-wheel-drive model is even more efficient earning 29 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. The all-wheel-drive, 1.3-liter model is still more efficient than the Trax with ratings of 26 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

In comparison, the Trax uses a 155-hp 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder which is rated at 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway when paired with front-wheel drive or 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway with all-wheel-drive.
