2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2: What We Know So Far

The ZR2 trim adds off-road prowess to Chevrolet's three-quarter-ton Silverado.

For the first time, Chevrolet is making its ZR2 off-road package available to heavy-duty truck buyers. The 2024 Silverado HD ZR2 will arrive in showrooms later this year, joining the midsize Colorado ZR2 and half-ton Silverado 1500 ZR2. Here's what you can expect to find on this rugged three-quarter-ton truck.

Available exclusively in the crew-cab 2500 configuration, the ZR2 package boasts a number of unique styling cues compared with the regular Silverado HD, including revised wheel-opening moldings with integrated mudguards, ZR2 badging, Chevrolet's hollowed-out "flow-tie" grille emblem, and special 18-inch aluminum wheels mounted with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. Rounding out the hardware upgrades are Multimatic DSSV dampers, a 1.5-inch lift kit, and model-specific skid plates, steering knuckles, and front-end suspension components.

For those seeking a little more rigor from their heavy-duty truck, Chevrolet is also rolling out a ZR2 Bison trim for the Silverado 2500. Developed in collaboration with the off-roading experts at American Expedition Vehicles, this model wears gloss black 18-inch AEV wheels, stamped-steel bumpers with recovery points at both ends, and hot-stamped skid plates made of high-strength boron steel. Every ZR2 Bison ships with unique badging, front-seat headrests with the AEV logo, winch provisions, and a better approach angle than the ZR2.

Under the hood, shoppers will find a 6.6-liter gas V8 developing 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, unless they swap it for the available Duramax 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V8 that's rated for 470 ponies and 975 lb-ft. Both engines mate to an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission.

Chevy fits all Silverado HD ZR2 models with its DuraBed cargo box, a rear bumper with an integrated corner step, a power tailgate, and additional bed steps. The brand's six-position Multi-Flex tailgate is also available.

The truck's interior pairs dark trim with leather upholstery. A 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 13.4-inch infotainment screen are standard, while a head-up display and a 360-degree camera are extra-cost options.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 Pricing

As of April 2023, Chevrolet has not announced pricing for the 2024 Silverado HD ZR2. Production of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 and ZR2 Bison is slated to begin this summer at the company's Flint, Michigan, assembly plant.
