Bulletproof

10/04/2019

I bought the Prius (which we named "Sparky") new and drove it over 700 miles/week (I have a hellish commute). It never gave me a moment's trouble - not one unexpected repair. The only reason I'm not STILL driving it is that the carpool lane sticker elapsed and I needed to get another car to maintain my HOV lane access. I feel like I could've driven the car 300,000 miles, no sweat. On paper, this is a plug-in hybrid but a full charge only got me 11 miles. I almost never plugged in, but routinely got 50MPH anyway. Styling and performance-wise, it's not going to set the world on fire. My wife hated driving it because of a) low seating position and b) feeling like a "tin can". Weight-reduction was a major factor. For me it was fine. There's a surprising amount of cargo space, especially with the rear seat folded. For passengers, the back seat isn't huge, but it's not cartoonishly tight like a sports car. It was plenty comfortable enough inside. The voice-activation features are frustrating.

Best car I've ever owned

07/24/2019

If you're thinking about buying a 2013 plug in prius - DO IT. Hands down the best car I've ever owned. Not the fanciest but certainly the best. Cheap to fuel, repair and maintain. I don't plug in very often but when I do I get a consistent 11-12 miles gas free which is perfect for short errand trips around town. If you value reliability and worry free ownership this is the car to get. I'll give you an example. I broke my taillight while backing up. Next morning ordered a new taillight housing on amazon for $70 an installed it myself in 15 minutes. Try that with a VW.
